Cantate Home School Choir

The Cantate Home School Choir is a non-profit organization that consists of Christian home-schooled singers ranging in age from 5 years through 12th grade.  Our purpose is to glorify God through skillful and worshipful music presentations while teaching our students to read music .
Our repertoire is a selection of sacred, classical, patriotic and popular songs that are all performed in a manner that is respectful and reverent of our awesome Creator.  Our performances include a variety of venues such as retirement homes, community events, and the Puyallup Fair.

The Cantate Home School Choir is currently rehearsing three different ensembles.

JUBILATE

Jubilate (yoo bih LAH tay) is an engaging 45-minute rehearsal geared for younger children aged 5 through 3rd grade.  This choir learns the basics of reading rhythm, pitch and beginning vocal production in a joyful and energetic setting.   The children interact with each other and learn how to function in a group setting as they play folk song games and perform  in concerts.

CANTATE 1

Cantate 1 (can TAH tay) is for children who are strong readers in grades 2  – 7.  Singers use 2-part choral sheet music as their “text” for learning to read music while they work on healthy vocal production.  Students in this choir study and test on their “Choral Creature Skills” packets and can earn a rank promotion when each packet is passed.  This is a 75 minute rehearsal that includes a fun game at the conclusion.  This choir performs in concerts at the end of every session.

CANTATE 2

Cantate 2 – (can TAH tay) is for older students in grades 5 – 12.  Students must pass a  pitch-matching test to participate in this ensemble.  Singers use 3 and 4-part choral sheet music and hymns as their “text” for learning to read music while they work on advanced vocal production.  Students in this choir study and test on their “Choral Creature Skills” packets and can earn a rank promotion when each packet is passed.  This is a 75 minute rehearsal that focuses on producing  an excellent choral sound.  This choir performs in concerts at the end of every session.
Rehearsals are held on Friday afternoons from September through early May at Northwest Church in Federal Way, WA.

Mission Statement

The Cantate Home School Choir is an inter-denominational ministry committed to honoring Jesus Christ and providing quality choral music education to home schooling families. It is specifically designed for families desiring to join together in a Christian community to help each other “train up their children in the way of the Lord” and attain certain musicianship goals.

The Cantate Home School Choir supports families who hold to the essential elements of the Christian faith, are ready to minister to the elderly and the community with excellent choral music, are “like-minded” as to the need for the moral character development of their children, have children desiring to be discipled in their faith, have a desire to work in Christian community through the contribution of time, talent, energy and financial support, and who are instructing their children to remain emotionally and physically pure for marriage.

“I wish to see all arts, principally music, in the service of Him who gave and created them. Music is a fair and glorious gift of God. I would not for the world forego my humble share of music. Singers are never sorrowful, but are merry, and smile through their troubles in song. Music makes people kinder, gentler, more staid and reasonable. I am strongly persuaded that after theology there is no art than can be placed on a level with music; for besides theology, music is the only art capable of affording peace and joy of the heart… the devil flees before the sound of music almost as much as before the Word of God.” -Martin Luther
